On Monday, liberal blogger and doyenne Arianna Huffington was profiled in The New York Times, and featured in a New Yorker piece about the future of the media.
It was no mere coincidence. Both stories came in the wake of a report earlier this month that The Huffington Post had surpassed the Drudge Report in popularity for the first time ever. (The story, which I first saw reported here, was based on the number of unique visitors in February: 3.7 million for the HuffPost and 3.4 million for Drudge).
While both stories mentioned how Huffington hopes to turn the HuffPost into an “Internet newspaper,” neither story addressed a crucial lingering question about Huffington’s identity…
namely, is she really Maureen Dowd?


As you can see from the pictures above, the two are eerily similar. As far as I know, neither woman has filed a story at exactly the same time–something which gives credence to the idea that they are the same person. Also, I personally have never seen the two together in a room before, and in fact, have never even seen Maureen Dowd in person.
The mystery continues…
